MEET CARRIE MCCONKEY

I was lucky to grow up with a right-brain mother and a left-brain father, and I became a hybrid of them both.

Right-brain Mom is gifted in artistic pursuits. Sewing or drawing, painting or stenciling, she always included me in her craft projects. From Mom I gained confidence using my hands, unafraid to try an unknown medium.

Left-brain Dad spent his career in law enforcement as a special agent in the FBI and led the Knoxville Police Department as chief. From Dad I learned attention to detail, relationship building, and how to be a reliable and trustworthy business associate.

Artistry and business have criss-crossed throughout my education and professional life. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and a Master’s in Human Resource Development. I worked as a bridal gown designer, public speaker, career services professional, fundraiser, and image consultant - two of those ventures being entrepreneurial.

Today, communicating with editors, companies, and entrepreneurs allows me to use my HR, marketing, and other business strengths, while penning copy fulfills my creative side. Being published in local and national magazines is always a thrill, and keeps my skills honed.

Because of my diverse career background, I understand many vocations and communicate effectively with a wide variety of readers. I love writing for my clients and editors, helping them connect with their audiences in an empathetic, informative, and inspiring voice.

Thanks, Mom and Dad.
